As some of you are probably aware, I have been in China for the last couple of weeks, and while I did accomplish a few other things while I was there, the main reason for my visit was to attend The World Academic Society of Medical Qigong conference in Beijing China
There is a playlist of all my China Vlogs that you can watch below if you are interested:
Or the ones specifically just from the conference are here:
I highly recommend having a look through the conference Vlogs if you are interested, because in them you get a chance to see some clips of the interesting presentations and demonstrations at the conference, as well as my thoughts an impressions from being there. I will also give a brief summary of the events of the conference as well as some photos below.
It was my first time attending this conference, and it was a really interesting, and even inspiring experience. At the conference there was a combination of presentations of research that members have been doing into the medical use of qigong, as well as presentations on other qigong topics, as well as demonstrations of different qigong forms.
The standard of the research being conducted was of mixed quality, from case studies, to solid well designed randomized trials, to some things that were a bit more speculative. Overall though I found it very encouraging to see the work that different people were doing and the forum for presenting that research. I have long had an ambition to one day engage in some solid scientific research into the application of qigong practice, and after attending the conference that looks more and more achievable to me.
The demonstrations were also very interesting, with a wide variety of styles on display. I was also honoured to demonstrate a short Wuji Qigong set on the afternoon of the second day. This is not a set that is currently taught in any of the Long White Cloud Qigong courses, but you can look forward to seeing this in some of the new course material that is currently under development.
Another thing that was fascinating about attending the conference, as well as some of my other visits in China, was to get an inside look at some of the general attitudes to qigong within the establishment there and also some insights into the politics and other factors that have shaped the current situation.
The conference ended with closing speeches, awards, and a massive final dinner and celebration.
I was again very honoured to receive an award from the society at this time.
It was great to be able to attend the conference, and it has left me motivated and inspired to continue to work towards a long term goal of conducting some substantial qigong research.
Thankyou to everyone involved with the society, and with the New Zealand delegation’s visit to the conference this year!
