Week Seven Sessions Outline:
- Take a few moments to stand in a relaxed position, quiet your mind, relax your body, and slow and deepen your breath before you start into the qigong exercises
- There are several ‘Playing with a Ball’ exercises to work on this week. As in previous weeks you can choose to spend as much time as you like on each of the exercises. If you struggle to form a ball of energy that you can feel easily, you may want to ‘warm up’ with some of the exercises from earlier weeks such as ‘Playing with Waves’ and ‘Stir the Mist’ to get your energy flowing. If you still struggle after these warm-ups, you may want to use the method used in the ‘What does qi feel like’ exercise at the beginning of this course.
- End your sessions with some simple qigong self massage to help return your energy to your centre
In the ‘Playing with a Ball’ exercises we use our internal energy and send some of it out beyond the limits of our physical body. We use this energy to create a field to draw energy from around us in and shape into a ball. These exercises are excellent for combining our awareness of internal and external energy. Working with the ball shape naturally encourages us to form and use efficient curves throughout our bodies. Being able to form and shape energy fields outside of our body is an important skill to develop before moving on to some more advanced qigong practices and applications. These exercises provide a good introduction to this.
