Week Four Sessions Outline:
- Take a few moments to stand in a relaxed position, quiet your mind, relax your body, and slow and deepen your breath before you start into the qigong exercises
- This week the focus is on beginning to sense the energy around you by imagining it as a mist which you stir with your movement. There are examples of several simple movements you can use to practice this. As in previous weeks you can choose to spend as much time on each of these exercises as you want
- End your sessions with some simple qigong self massage to help return your energy to your centre
In the qigong exercises this week we imagine the energy around us as a mist which swirls and coils as we move through it. Another useful representation you can use if you prefer is of the energy as water. Your hands rest on the surface and as you move them it creates ripples and waves. Whichever representation you use, try to make yourself very aware of the sensation on your hands and also over the rest of your body as you move with these exercises. You will begin to feel a sensation of energy around you, this can feel literally like a gentle mist or like a subtle tingling. With practice your interaction with this energy will become more and more meaningful. You will be able to direct and shape the flow of energy, and also allow it to settle into the cells of your body if desired, refreshing and renewing like morning dew on grass.
In addition to this external awareness of energy, the movement patterns in these exercises will create internal coiling of energy through your body from the twisting motions of the connective tissue.
